Have you noticed just how many two-door compacts Volkswagen makes? There's the Beetle coupe and convertible, the Scirocco which is supposed to be a true coupe and isn't, the Eos, the Golf 3-door and of course the Golf Cabrio… which we're not sure why they are making.
None of these cars has been particularly successful, which is why some of these models might be axed and replaced with something else. Since nobody actually wants a coupe any more, a four-door coupe seems like a much better alternative.
A compact four-door called the Golf CC is expected to arrive in 2015, though no prototypes have yet been spotted. This is not a Jetta by any means, as a sloping roofline and keener design will differentiate the two. Volkswagen is also likely to offer only the more powerful engines in its lineup, starting with the 125 PS 1.4-liter TSI and potentially ending with GTI or R units. Independent rear suspension, which is not fitted to cheaper Golf 7 models, is a must for this type of car.
Until VW decides it's time to reveal the car, we can only guess what it looks like. This next rendering created by RM.Design shows a set of keen headlights and LED daytime runners from the e-Golf in the front bumper. The roofline is long and curved, but somehow a bit too tall for the Golf-based four-door coupe.
