The pricing for the GTD starts at £21,850 RRP for the three-door version with a six-speed manual transmission. There is an extra £585 to be paid for the five-door model and a £1,305 for the one fitted with a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
The hot hatch is powered by a 2.0l common rail TDI engine, which develops 170 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The unit is controlled, as we said via either a six-speed manual or automatic DSG gearbox.
This makes the GTD capable of accelerating to 62 mph (100 km/hour) in 8.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 138 mph (220 km/hour). CO2 emissions ratings stand at 139 g/km while the average fuel consumption is 53.3 mpg (5.3l 100 km), giving the GTD a range in excess of 640 miles (1,000 km) on a single tank of fuel.
If you choose to go for a GTD version instead of the series Mark VI, you will get a new front bumper, located below a honeycomb grille element, framed by chrome horizontal fins and a prominent 'GTD' badge. At the rear, full body-colored bumpers make the GTD appear lower and wider than it really is, while the Golf's standard wheels are replaced with unique 17 inch Seattle Black alloy wheels (the same body kit as with the GTI).
As standard, the GTD is fitted with ABS, ESP and seven airbags, including for the first time in the Golf range a knee airbag.
