In case the so-many limited and special edition models launched by Volkswagen in the last few weeks are not enough for you car aficionados, here's one more: the German manufacturer today rolled out a new limited edition Golf called 18T that comes as an alternative to the 1.4-liter TSI version. Just like its name suggests, the car is powered by a 1.8-liter engine that develops no less than 160 horsepower and mated to manual transmission.
What's interesting is that the new powerplant has exactly the same output as a small-displacement engine included in the sixth-generation Golf range, namely the 1.4-liter TSI. However, the torque is a bit higher on the 1.8-liter unit - 250 Nm compared with 240 Nm on the smaller unit.
Performance figures are pretty much the same as for the Golf equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI engine: it sprints from a standstill to sixty in 8 seconds and tops at around 220 km/h. Furthermore, fuel consumption levels are also similar, with the 18T eating up to 6.3 l/100 km (37.3 mpg) and producing around 145 g/km.
As for the prices, the Golf 18T Limited Edition 5-door is priced at 27,050 euros for the Comfortline version - equipment highlights include electric windows, metallic paint, fog lamps and other features - and 28,350 euros for the Highline.
Separately, Volkswagen is also turning to some price cuts in certain regions of Europe, in a move supposed to bring more consumers in dealerships. According to automocionblog.com, the Golf 2.0-liter TDI 110 hp now comes with a 2,000 euro discount in Holland until August 31.
