Volkswagen Passenger Cars has just reported its deliveries are now up 3.7% for the year-to-date period of January through July. The German car brand managed to find 3.38 million customers worldwide, and impressive figure, but overshadowed by another month of small sales declines.
For the month of July, deliveries were slightly down, by 0.5% to 466,100 vehicles. Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing said market uncertainty is to blame for this and the company is keeping a very close eye on things for the remainder of the year.
More than a quarter of their sales come from Europe, and so with deliveries there dropping 6.7% for the year to date, VW is losing on its biggest market. Indicating a bottom in the car market has not yet formed, sales in the usually strong German market have dropped 9.1% this year.
By contrast, Volkswagen Passenger Cars deliveries are up 17% in the Asia-Pacific region with 1.48 million customers from January to July. Most of that figure can be attributed to growth in China's (1.36 million, up 18.9%).
In the North America region, Volkswagen Passenger Cars grew 3.6% to 359,300.
Editor's note: Low sales? Must make more SUVs.
