Volkswagen Expects Diesel Sales to Explode in the US

Diesel engines have always been referred to units specifically addressed to European markets, as Americans were more interested in gasoline engines. However, the economic chaos changed the way people think about cars and diesel engines are slowly but sure increasing their reputation around the world. The best example comes from the United States as German manufacturer Volkswagen, who is projected to launch a diesel flavor of its sixth-generation Golf in the country, predicts very high sales for this particular model.

According to a report by Autonews, Volkswagen says that about 30 percent of the total sale figures of the new generation Golf are expected to represent diesel units. "How's that possible?" you may ask.

Well, the German automaker says the Jetta, which also comes in a diesel version, brings fairly high figures, with almost a half of the sold wagons coming in diesel form. Furthermore, 30 percent of the sold sedans are powered by diesel units.

Overall, the fight for the diesel sector is getting more interesting in the United States where more and more European automakers are bringing this type of fuel-efficient engines. Audi for example, has very high expectations from its diesel configurations, with the German premium brand forecasting 25 percent of its new Q7 lineup to be diesel engines.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz, who is now selling the E-Klasse sedan diesel and several diesel SUVs in the United States aim to double the overall figures. BMW is currently a weak challenger when it comes to this particular sector, as the German brand recorded only poor diesel sales figures since it brought the first models in the US.
