The Volkswagen Golf 7 has yet to arrive in the US. It will be ready by next summer and will go on sale as a 2015 model with its first all-turbo engine family. But a humble 1.8-liter TSI isn't going to impress us. The real power of German engineering comes in the first-ever electric version of the Golf.

First shown in Frankfurt two months ago, this car has 85 kW or 115 hp of power and 170 Nm (199 lb-ft). It's good for about 90 miles on a full charge and gets to 60 in a very reasonable 10.4 seconds.
The first Volkswagen with zero tailpipe emissions is likely also going on sale in the US, taking them onto the stage where Nissan's Leaf and Chevy's Volt are playing.
