Add up two million and another half a mil’, and you’ll find that oftentimes it comes to 2.5 million. What are we talking about? Those keeping an eye on the recent sales figures to come from the German automotive industry should have realized we’re referring to the most recent delivery numbers from Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, those for the first six month of 2011.
That’s right, Das Auto has done it again, handing over more than 2.53 million units during the first half of 2011. The result represents a substantial 11.8 percent increase over the same period of 2010, and a new record for the first half of the year.
The news follows last month's report that VW sold over 2 million vehicles in the first five month of the year, which means the pace of deliveries is actually accelerating in the firt month of summer. The brand also reported an increase for the month of June, with 438,500 VWs sold, an increase of 9.8 percent from June 2010’s 399,200.
“The positive trend for the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand in the first half of the year is very encouraging. It would be a major success if we could keep up this momentum during the second six months,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars reported a substantial increase in the Central and Eastern European region, where demand grew 42.2 percent in the first half. Sales also more than double in Russia, which now represents about a third of the region’s total figures.
The brand delivered 950,100 vehicles in the Asia-Pacific region from January to June, of which 852,800 units were handed over to customers in China, the largest single market. Deliveries in North America, where the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 237,700 vehicles in the first six months, were also substantially improved.
