Volkswagen Dealers in the US Are Reportedly Still Selling TDI-Powered Cars

The wave of anger and rage that Volkswagen faced in the wake of its emissions scandal seems to have faded a little, so even though we can’t say we’ve got “normal operations” resumed, it would appear that buying an affected TDI model from a US VW dealer isn’t impossible either.
Volkswagen had the natural reaction of withdrawing its affected cars from sale in the US, which meant that buying a new diesel Golf or Jetta became absolutely impossible. Certified pre-owned vehicles that used the same EA189 engine were also forbidden from being sold at a Volkswagen dealership, for the same reasons.

However, not everybody’s as mad at Volkswagen as you might imagine. Some people are much more attracted by the possibility of buying what is, for all intents and purposes, a very good car at a considerable discount, with the single drawback of emitting more nitrous oxides than it says on the box. After all, what’s the deal with these oxides anyway, right? You can’t even see them. They’re a bit like God: can you really be sure they exist?

Volkswagen dealers aren’t taking any risks, though, and so they have the future buyer sign a paper called Appendix “A” and titled “Important Notice to Customer.” Undisclosed sources told automotive website TheTruthAboutCars that the acquisition of an affected diesel Volkswagen vehicle is being restricted by just two facts: the car must not be new or a certified pre-owned vehicle, and the buyer must sign the Appendix “A” paper.

In other words, those people have to put it in writing and under signature that they don’t give a rat’s ass about clean air, morals, and principles, and that their well-being is a lot more important than any of that crap. Cynics, some might call them, while others would simply label them as very practical men. On the other hand, “douchebags” works just as well.

We can’t verify if this practice is really going on at Volkswagen dealers across the US or how widespread it might be, but it just goes to show that where there’s a will (to sell), there’s a way. Kids, remember that, but try and put it to better use.
