Volkswagen CrossGolf Details and Photos Released

Following last week's introduction of the new CrossPolo, German carmaker Volkswagen released today details on CrossPolo's bigger brother, the CrossGolf or, as VW likes to call it, the missing link between MPV and SUV.

Set to meet the fans at next week's Geneva Auto Show, the CrossGolf is born to become the sixth Golf in the range, following the Golf, Golf Plus, Golf Variant, Golf GTI and the Golf R. To celebrate the entry, VW restyled the car here and there, added new TDI and TSI engines and will provide new equipment for the CrossGolf.

Available for sale starting this April, the new Golf will be made available with a choice of one 1.4 TSI petrol engine, delivering three different power outputs: 160 PS/240 Nm, 105 PS and 122 PS. for diesel, the offering comprises a 2.0l TDI (140 PS) and a 1.6l TDI (105 PS).

Four of the five engines will be made available with an automatic direct shift gearbox (DSG). The 105 PS TSI unit can use the 7-speed version, while the 140-PS TDI gets its own dedicated 6-speed version, designed to handle high-torques.

As for the visual cues which set the CrossGolf aside from its peers, the new version features all-terrain trim around, with the front boasting front fog lights in a downward direction, cross bar in silver and aligned band of the radiator grille between the headlights.

The car sits 20 mm higher than the regular Golf and features 17-inch Budapest alloy wheels. The mirror caps come in silver, the same color as the underbody guard of the front bumper and the roof railings.

On the inside, the CrossGolf uses sport seats, sports air vents framed in a stainless steel look, three-spoke steering wheel, gearshift lever trim and grip in leather upholstery in Cellular light-grey, folding trays and storage pockets for the back seats.

As for equipment, standard features on the CrossGolf include daytime running lights and central locking with RF remote control, semi-automatic "Climatic" climate control system, height-adjustable driver’s seat, height and length adjustments of the steering column, multi-function display, remote unlocking of the fuel door and lockable and cooling glove box.

The CrossGolf will join the CrossPolo at Volkswagen's booth in Geneva, where an autoevolution team will be present. Stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
