Volkswagen could be making a production hub in Malaysia by partnering with Proton, Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the matter. High ranking management and board member official are now looking at the Asian automaker’s production facilities to see how well they are equipped to put VWs together there.
This isn’t the first time that VW has looked at Proton, but back in June 2010, they ended negotiations. However, now they they might reconsider due to profit declines and an aging model range. If a deal is struck, VW could gain access to other Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia and Thailand.
