Volkswagen doesn`t really have any truly US-specific cars, other than the Passat, which they make locally, and now they have announced that they will be adding a new vehicle into that category. At the 2012 Los Angeles International Auto Show, Klaus Bischoff, VW’s global head of design made an announcement.
He confirmed rumors that they were working on an SUV, which would sit above the Touareg, in terms of size, and offer three rows of seats (7 seats in total), while sitting below it, in terms of pricing. It would still be more expensive than the Tiguan, but not by much, so this would lead us to believe that it may be based on its platform, instead of that of the much larger and more expensive Touareg.
Bischoff also said that it will not have its off-road capabilities, either, while still being competent, if the going were to get tough, and you`d run out of smooth tarmac. He also announced that VW would be ending its collaboration with Chrysler, which currently manufactures the Routan MPV for them, with no plans for a replacement model in store.
