Volkswagen's all-new T6 and significantly refreshed Caddy were always supposed to have TSI turbo engines, but we never expected them to be so numerous or powerful. Maybe it's a response to Mercedes-Benz or just a way to say "thank you" to the fans. Regardless, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have announced a range of new gasoline engines consisting of 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0 TSI mills.
We're reading this from a UK company statement, but the new Caddy and Caravelle TSI are also available in Germany. There are too many trim levels and configurations to choose from, but we'll try to keep things nice and simple.

All the engines are turbocharged and belong to the EA888 family, although their outputs have changed.

The Caddy kicks things off with the 1.2 TSI available from £13,610 for the Caddy panel van, £15,110 for the Caddy Life. The 1.2-liter engine in question complies with the Euro 6 regulations and is the same unit offered on the Polo. However, its output has dropped from 90 to 84 hp while torque remains the same at 160 Nm.

Despite being smaller, the 1.0 TSI delivers more power. This is a 3-cylinder turbo engine that's designed to give the Ford Tourneo Connect Ecoboost a run for its money. The output of 102 PS is accompanied by 175 Nm of torque. Finally, we have the Caddy 1.4 TSI, which gets 125 PS and either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DSG gearbox.

Probably the biggest news here is that Caravelle is getting hot 2.0-liter engines. Of course, we know that a Passat with a 2.0-liter turbo is not as engaging as a GTI, and that's twice as true for a T6. But we can't help wonder what the tuners will be able to do. After all, the GTI is routinely pushed to 300 PS.

VW UK says that the Caravelle is going to be available with a base 150 PS turbo (280 Nm) and a 204 PS unit (350 Nm). These two petrol motors will be included to the Caravelle SE short wheelbase model range. However, we checked the German market website and found the 204 PS model fitted with standard 4Motion and a 7speed DSG on the Multivan as well. If you are crazy enough to buy a €70,000 van, this should be a prime pick.
