A few days ago, we reported that VW will bring a new incarnation of the famous Bus to the world, with the company currently evaluating different options for the project.
Today, we decided to offer you a piece of bus-related news that takes things to a whole new level. Let’s introduce this as a riddle: it’s a hippie’s dream, it’s a racer’s fantasy, it uses a Volkswagen badge and, in theory, it should be a great hauling machine.
Ok, we’ll give you a little time to think... Drum rolls... Ladies and Racermen we give you the Mental Breakdown. This is no joke, what you’ve just read is the name used for a 1,700 hp Volkswagen Bus Dragster that was brought to the world by Wayne Allman. In case you were wondering, the machine comes from the UK. The project is based on a 1965 VW Bus. The driver’s cabin is the only part of the body that has been left in place.
The dragster uses a tubular chassis and is powered by a 8.4 liter Keith Black V8 unit that runs on methanol and uses supercharging to produce no less than 1,700 hp.
The list of goodies includes a special oversized wing mounted on a tubular structure, two parachutes that bring an ultra-high level of stopping power, a special yellow warning light, as well specific drag racing tires.
The crazy machine, which is a perfect example of “passion conquers all” will be showcased at the upcoming Essen Motor Show.
