Volkswagen has tried to stop its demising sales of Tiguan small SUVs by introducing a sporty new engine to the range which is also economical and easy to drive.
The new model for this market is called the 118 TSI because it offers 118 kW of power, equivalent to 160 PS. The twinchargher 1.4-liter TSI that you can also get on cars like the Beetle develops 240 Nm of torque and is paired to a DSG6 gearbox.

At AU$35,990, the Tiguan 1.4 TSI is now the cheapest DSG model in the range, being $5000 less than the 132TSI Pacific, a 180 PS model that use a 2l engine.

Besides being relatively affordable, the model is also efficient, with 7.3 liters consumed per 100 km combined kilometers. It's 0.4 liters less frugal than a manual but in the real world that will shrink right down.
