Volkswagen Arteon R is already a car that’s supposed to boast a stylish and dynamic look, but this new rendering right here pushes things even further with a traditional coupe approach.
Created by kelsonik and shared on Instagram, the rendering envisions a VW Arteon R coupe with a 2-door configuration, something which for many makes sense, especially because the German carmaker itself tried to offer a coupe-shaped rear on the car.

While the regular 2-door coupe bodystyle does provide a sportier look from some angles, it also makes the Arteon R feel bigger, highlighting its somewhat boat-ish design when viewed from the side.

Volkswagen itself says the idea behind the design of the new Arteon R (not the Shooting Brake model, of course) was to achieve an avant-garde look with the help of modern lines and coupe-shaped rear, all without compromising the interior space and the comfort of the rear passengers.

And at some level, Volkswagen did manage to achieve this purpose, as the maximum legroom for the rear passengers of the Arteon R is 1,016 mm. As far as the trunk is concerned, the Arteon R offers no less than 563 liters for luggage, and this can be increased to no less than 1,557 liters with the back seats completely folded.

All in all, Volkswagen’s approach appears to be the right way to go when it comes to a sporty look and interior legroom and comfort, despite some people expecting a coupe-ish design in the traditional way.

Needless to say, turning the Arteon R into a traditional coupe isn’t something that’s expected to happen anytime soon, not only because from a technical perspective this is a rather complex process but also because this isn’t a direction that Volkswagen likely wants to explore with its fastback.
