When BMW or Mercedes celebrate the birthday of a big saloon or drop-top, you usually end up with cocktail parties taking place around the world, maybe an anniversary edition with extra leather and shinier paint. Not Volkswagen! They prefer a whole different route that includes parties, stripper poles and body kits.

What is undoubtably the most famous hothatch brand in the world, the Golf GTI is celebrating 35 years of existence, and we are literally overwhelmed with all the new cars concept and ideas coming not only from Das Auto themselves, but also the tuning world and sister companies like Skoda and Audi, that both brought their extreme makeovers to the GTI event.

That’s enough of an introduction, and it’s time to get back to the subject at hand: a very special racing-oriented GTI that’s the brainchild of both tuning specialists APR and Volkswagen Coaching GmbH.

It’s called the Golf GTI Reifnitz, and this one-off birthday present has special paintwork, aero package, and added new interior, which is a blend of motorsport and monster sound system, plus more power than some supercars had in the 90s.

You’ve got everything from stock-looking side sills and bumper mods, to a full rollcage and big subwoofers in the back, but there’s nothing as impressive as that engine that has received a Stage III Turbocharger, APR Intercooler and APR RSC Performance Exhaust, boosting the 2.0 TSI’s output from 210 hp stock to 370 hp.

“APR is proud to be a part of one of the most beautifully crafted individualized GTI’s to be presented on the Main VW Display at GTI Treffen am Worthersee. You may not be able to purchase this unique GTI MK6 at your local VW dealership but you can prepare yours to same level of engine performance through APR’s extensive product line for VW’s 2.0 TSI engine no matter the chassis you choose,” APR says.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
