Volkswagen Amarok Making UK Debut

Volkswagen is introducing the Amarok pick-up to the British market, with the vehicle making its premiere at the 2011 Outdoors Show, an event that kicks off today at the ExCel exhibition centre in London’s Docklands.

The Amarok offers the largest load dimensions in its class, coming with a load area of 2.52 sqm (1,555 mm long, 1,620 mm wide, with width between wheelarches of 1,222 mm).

The vehicle offers a long list of standard safety features, including EDL (Electronic Differential Lock), ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) with Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control and off-road ABS designed to shorten stopping distances significantly on loose surfaces.

“Combining a robust pick-up with innovative technology, high safety standards, excellent fuel economy and Volkswagen standards of comfort, quality and durability, the new four-door double-cab pick-up was recently honoured with the inaugural International Pick-up Award,” a company statement reads.

Volkswagen said it will offer UK pricing and specifications for the Amarok in the following months. The vehicle will hit dealerships across the country this spring.

The company is also introducing the Berghaus limited edition of the Califronia van at the event. The vehicle, which was created together with the clothing specialists, will be offered with a 2.0 liter BiTDi 180 hp unit, with the standard equipment including a bike rack, awning, Berghaus-branded carpet mats and waterproof seat covers, and exclusive 18-inch bi-colour Dakar alloy wheels.
