Volkswagen Amarok Aventura Exclusive Concept Gets New 3.0 TDI V6 With 258 PS

As Renault prepares to bring the Alaskan mid-size pickup to Europe, the Volkswagen Group wants to wow the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show crowd with not one, but two Amarok models. One of them, called Aventura Exclusive, grabs our attention the most thanks to the new engine it hides under the hood.

Bearing the Turmeric Yellow Metallic exterior paint color from the Arteon and Golf 7.5, the Volkswagen Amarok Aventura Exclusive is dubbed as a concept and prides itself on 19-inch Milford wheels. Pop the sculpted, muscular hood of the workhorse, and you’ll be met by the light commercial vehicle’s “future range-topping 3.0-liter TDI engine.” Compared to the standard Amarok’s maximum output of 224 PS (221 horsepower), the new plant is rated at 258 PS (254 horsepower).

Torque remains a mystery, but Volkswagen promises more than 550 Nm (367 pound-feet) of torque. Combined with all-wheel-drive and a Torsen-type mechanical self-locking center differential, you’re looking at a truck capable of towing something like 3.5 tonnes (7,716 pounds), if not more thanks to the extra performance. From a technological standpoint, the Aventura Exclusive is set apart by ParkPilot and 14-way adjustable ergoComfort seats, plus bi-xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights.

Joining the concept at IAA 2017 is the Amarok Dark Label. Built on the Comfortline trim level and finished in Indium Grey matt, the special edition is beautified by black sill pipes, matt black styling bar, and 18-inch Rawson alloy wheels with high-gloss finish. A handful of goodies are present on the inside too, with the automaker aiming the limited-run truck to “design-oriented individualists.”

There are two engine options available for the 2018 Volkswagen Amarok Dark Label, with the base model combining the 163 PS (160 horsepower) 3.0 TDI V6 with a manual transmission and rear-wheel-drive. On-demand 4Motion and permanent all-wheel-drive are also available, as is an eight-speed automatic transmission. The starting price in Germany for the special edition? €33,714, thank you!
