Have you ever heard of a little place called the Nurburgring? Well, if you happen to be familiar with the Green Hell, then you probably wouldn't image that somebody could fall asleep during a hot lap. Well, you don't have to turn to imagination, since this story is real, with a vlogger having recently taken a mid-lap nap.
We're talking about Misha Charoudin, a Russian-born Nurburgring settler who constantly delivers spicy adventures from the infamous German circuit.
As Misha explains on social media, once he rides shotgun in a machine whose driver he trusts, he enjoys closing his eyes to perceive the soundtrack and the vibrations of the experience. Heck, given the 3D nature of the Ring, with all the elevation changes and bumps, who can blame him?
Nevertheless, during a recent 7:30 lap (anything under 8m triggers an adrenaline rush for the average aficionado), which saw the vlogger being "chauffeured" around in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, he fell asleep.
In fact, here's how Misha describes the shenanigan: "This time however, I actually passed out and woke up at Kesselchen when Norbert [Norbert Langohr was the driver] said something like this is a very fun part of the track with this car,"
Much to nobody's surprise, the... reeboting moment was the most intense of the whole experience: "Do you know that feeling when you just wake up and it feels as if the world around you is moving too fast, while you are still "drugged" from the sleep and float somewhere in slowmotion? Now imagine happening that to you while you're going 250 km/h through a narrow series of corners. Surreal,"
Of course, many of us close their eyes during hot passenger laps from time to time and you can see Misha doing that in the images above, which were captured at lesser speed, while the Rennsport Neunelfer was tackling the Carousel bend.
So, why did the aficioando dooze off while his driver was blitzing the Nordschleife? Well, as the vlogger explains, fatigue is the one to blame.
"Without over-exaggerating July was for me the busiest month of the year. Various races, events, weeks of video shoots and all the other existing tasks eventually even took their toll in the last race as you know by now," - the said motorsport mention refers to the time when Misha crashed mid-race due to forgetting to brake while being overly exhausted, as he explained after the accident, which fortunately saw him walking away uninjured, but totaled the car.
So here's to hoping every aficioando out there uses the best energy drink on the market before jumping inside a speed toy, namely the hours you spend on the pillow.
