VL Automotive, the company co-founded by former vice president Bob Lutz, has unveiled its brand new Destino Red concept at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
Based on the all-electric Fisker Karma sedan, the Destino Red is a two-door convertible that becomes a “touring coupe” once fitted with its hard top. The concept features an interior created by famous specialist Katzkin and sports a V8 engine under the hood.
When it goes into production, the Destino Red will become available with either an all motor Corvette LT1 (450 HP) or a supercharged Corvette LS9 engine (638 HP), both mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. There’s no word when that will happen, but the company had this to say about the car:
"We had hoped to be in retail production by now, but a five-month interruption was caused by the reorganization and restructuring of Fisker Automotive which is a major supplier of some structural components and some body panels,” said VL Automotive co-founder Gilbert Villarreal. "Pending resolution of the bankruptcy proceedings, we will continue to negotiate for those parts in tandem with development of VL Automotive's own fabricating operations which make front and rear facias, roofs, trunks and hoods."
