Visteon Launches Infotainment Solution

Visteon used the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to demonstrate its new infotainment platform that's scheduled to debut later this year to be implemented in multiple vehicles slated to launch in the upcoming years. As an infotainment solution, the product will offer so-called "smart" connectivity options and other features such as off-board navigation and remote diagnostics, as well as a suite of consumer-focused applications that can be downloaded after vehicle purchase.

"With the significant growth in smart phones and other personal connectivity devices, vehicle manufacturers are looking for innovative solutions that allow users to access content on their mobile devices in a safe and controlled manner while in their vehicles," said Christian Feltgen, global director of cockpit technologies for Visteon's electronics group.

Of course, Visteon has also focused on much simpler applications, such as hands-free, voice-activated Bluetooth wireless features to be installed in cars and thus allow drivers and passengers talk on the phone through the audio system of the vehicle.

"Working with both Intel and ARM-based designs, Visteon has set a new benchmark in infotainment solutions that will align with new software standards developed through the GENIVI Alliance − of which Visteon is a founding member," Feltgen added.

Beside Visteon, Hyundai has also launched at the 2011 CES its very own telematics systems. Codenamed Blue Link, the service is similar to GM's OnStar and provides a wide array of features supposed to enhance both comfort and safety behind the wheel. A complete feature list is available at the following link.
