Ever since Mercedes-Benz and Maybach tied the knot to become Mercedes-Maybach, the outfit did its best to make the S-Class posher than ever before. With the advent of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept, the ultra-luxury manufacturer has kicked it up a notch by previewing the future pure electric luxury cars.
In terms of dimensions, this electric-powered concept vehicle stands 5,700 mm (224.4 in) long, it’s 2,100 mm (82.6 in) wide, and just about 1,328 mm (52.2 in) tall. That makes it longer and more hunkered down to the ground than the most lavish full-size coupe I can think of - the Rolls-Royce Wraith.

As per the manufacturer, this huge “2+2-seater is an homage to the glorious age of the aero coupes and consciously carries this tradition forward into the future. The coupe reinterprets classic, emotional design principles in an extreme way, following the Mercedes design philosophy of sensual purity.” What does it for me, though, is the extremely long hood, split rear window, and the gullwing doors. The pattern of the front grille is another highlight.

The enormous 24-inch wheels are propelled by an electric powertrain with 750 HP (550 kW) on tap. Under the floor of the Vision 6, the battery packs approximately 80 kWh. This much juice allows for a theoretical range on a full charge of more than 500 kilometers (NEDC) or more than 200 miles (EPA).

That’s rather ambitious from my point of view. Tesla, by comparison, can’t do more than an EPA-rated 294 miles with 90 kWh of zap before the Model S 90D needs to be plugged in for recharging. Other similarly theoretical specifications include a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) stint in under four seconds and a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour (155 miles per hour).

Also theoretical, Mercedes-Maybach highlights that the Vision 6 Concept can be juiced up with around 100 kilometers (62 miles) of additional range in five minutes, but only if you can find a quick-charging DC station. In addition to this, wireless charging is also possible thanks to an electromagnetic field.

Mercedes-Maybach hasn’t confirmed or denied the possibility of a production vehicle based on the Vision 6 Concept. There’s some hearsay in that sense, according to which Mercedes-Maybach wants to introduce a competitor for the Wraith. This, however, is nothing but speculation, the reason why it is better to look forward to the future of Mercedes-Maybach without getting our hopes up for a pure electric full-size luxury coupe. Not now, at least.
