When talking about BMW and Daimler-owned Mercedes-Benz, you are usually referring about some sort of rivalry. That's why, when we first heard that they might be undergoing a joint venture we were extremely surprised.
After some research we found out that the rumors are indeed true. The 2 automotive giants are working together on what they call Visio.M. It's an electric urban vehicle and it was developed due to a research grant, given by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research, worth €10,500,000 ($14,000,000). The goal of the research grant was to develop a car that has around 20 HP and weighed less than 450 kg (or 1,000 pounds).

The Urban Vehicle is made out of carbon fiber and other composite materials that make the car so light that it can be electric powered and safe enough to be driven around the city streets.

Visio.M has even been caught on camera by the guys over at AutosBlog while testing near Munich.
