Virgin Racing Partners Up with DS Brand for Formula E

Sure, Formula E is not that exciting as the F1 or NASCAR, but we all know that it’s not just about racing with this rather young rally. No, the highest class of competition for one-make, single-seater, electrically powered racing cars also has quite a big role in the development of green technologies future road cars will use. That’s pretty much what this partnership between Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Racing and the DS Brand is about.

Call him a mad man, but the owner of Virgin Galactic is not just looking at the stars like to the next place for humankind to travel, he believes things will change quite significantly at home too. After his Formula E team had won the season run at Battersea Park in London, Bronson said he believes it’s a matter of years until the green racing class run by FIA will take over F1.

I think four or five years from now you’ll find Formula E overtaking Formula One in terms of number of people [watching] and more and more, as time goes on, clean energy business are going to power ahead of other companies,” he said, according to Planet F1.

The deal in question only comes to confirm the billionaire’s beliefs. The partnership will see the DS brand, through its Motorsport Division, bring its technological expertise in research and development of the race car, together with the design strategy of Virgin Racing Engineering.

The aim is to deliver the infrastructure, racing experience and design and integration expertise to compete at the highest levels and to win Championships,” DS Brand details in the press release we listed below.
