A fellow unpacking this miniature van at a party should be nicknamed DJ Volkswagen, and that’s just the simplest joke one could come up with. Believe it or not, such a thing exists and it’s made in Japan. The question is, do you have enough records at home to throw a proper bash?
Because if you do, nothing is standing between you and a perfect weekend. And the best part is that you don’t even need to worry about any sound system since it has a built-in speaker that acts like one. Alright, it may not be the best way to extract quality music from a vinyl, but imagine how effective it is.

Before worrying about license agreements, it should be noted that the Record Runner is a Volkswagen-authorized product. It plays 12- or 7-inch records at 45 rpm, and it’s the size of your palm. Two AAA batteries should allow for about 90 minutes of usage while the record needle can always be replaced if needed.

The VW music van, if you want to call it that way, has been available since this October, and you can have it in either dark purple or lime green. To ensure the quality is the best, the company is making sure each is hand built. With a price of 6,980 yen ($57 at the current exchange rate) including tax, this gizmo makes for one of the coolest players on the market.

Its size helps any vinyl enthusiast take it around old record stores and try their favorite album out on site. After all, you must have a friend who is one of those collectors that are very annoyed with the records that cost a fortune only to turn out they’re broken once played at home.

Bottom line, whether it’s for a hipster party, a Sunday record buying afternoon, or you just want to keep it on your desk as a VW van scale model, this thing sure makes for a great Christmas gift.
