A stuntman fell and was severely injured on the set of the upcoming “Fast & Furious 9” movie. Reports in the British media say that he is now in an induced coma but in an otherwise stable condition.
The Sun was the first to break the news. The accident happened at the at Studios Leavesden, the Warner Bros Studios in Hertfordshire, where they were shooting scenes for the 2020 release. The police and the ambulance service confirmed that a man was rushed to the hospital with a head injury but, as per policy, did not reveal his identity.

“Police were called shortly before noon today following an incident at Warner Bros Studios in Leavesden, Hertfordshire,” a spokesperson for the Hetrfordshire Police says for the publication. “It was reported that a man had been injured while working at the location and sustained serious injuries. The air ambulance attended and police officers are currently on scene to assist and carry out initial inquiries.”

According to the ambulance service, the injured man was taken by helicopter to the Royal London Hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries. The Sun doesn’t offer more details on what happened.

However, the Daily Mail identifies the victim as Vin Diesel’s stunt double, British stuntman Joe Watts. Apparently, Diesel was on set when it happened, saw everything and was left shocked and with tears in his eyes. Watts jumped from a balcony and fell from at least 30 feet and hit his head when he crashed on the ground.

The report doesn’t say more about what exactly went wrong, but it mentions Watts’ fiance, who was present. She wrote on social media that Watts was “stable” and getting the best care possible. The Mail also says Watts has been placed in an induced coma. In case of severe injuries, doctors can put patients in induced coma to allow their body time to heal.

Watts has done stunt work for a variety of films, including “Kingsman Golden Circle,” “Spider Man Far from Home,” “Mission Impossible: Fallout,” “Jurassic World” and HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones.”
