Villeneuve Questions Vettel's Maturity

While many people agree that Sebastian Vettel doesn't lack the speed and skills of an F1 champion, some doubt his maturity at the wheel of an F1 car. Whether that's the direct effect of the multiple mistakes he did through the course of last season, when many agreed Vettel should have clinched the world title long before the season finale, or just personal opinions, we're not to judge.

One such person is former Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve, who told Germany's T-Online that “viewing it from the outside, it's impossible to say how this (maturity) has developed" through his title winning campaign last year.

That Vettel is very quick, there is no doubt. The question has always been his psychological maturity,” he added.

Several mistakes stand out during his championship winning year with Red Bull, starting with the incident in Turkey, when he practically ran into his teammate Mark Webber and eventually was forced to retire due to car damage, and ending with his crash into Jenson Button at Spa. Of course, these were the most visible ones, so we're not going to go over his season here.

In addition, Villeneuve also referred to his old rival Michael Schumacher, whom many criticized at his return to the series last year. As compared to many, the Canadian argued that the German really improved himself in the second part of the season and showed people that he is truly back for winning and nothing else.

In the second half of the (2010) season he was really strong. He was criticised severely because he didn't just blow Nico (Rosberg) away. But if he is still as hungry to win as he used to be, then he has the makings to be champion again,” added Villeneuve.
