Villeneuve Praises Former Teammate Jenson Button

Former Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve argued Jenson Button is a much more experienced and cool-under-pressure driver as compared to compatriot and already-F1-champion Lewis Hamilton. The Canadian believes Button proved himself of how good he truly is by completing one third of the season and not making any mistakes in the process.

He hasn't made any mistakes. Lewis Hamilton was making mistakes even when he won the championship. I think Jenson is also stronger than Lewis mentally, in dealing with pressure,” said Villeneuve.

The British driver has so far won won 5 of the opening 6 rounds of the 2009 season, holding a comfortable 16-point advantage over Brawn teammate Rubens Barrichello. Although he praises Button's impressive run so far, Villeneuve can't seem to find the same warm feelings towards Brawn GP (former BAR).

When driving alongside Button at BAR, the Canadian was constantly outpaced by his younger teammate during the 2003 season. Having to deal with the constant criticism from both the media and team boss David Richards, Villenueve couldn't take the heat and parted ways with the outfit one race before the actual end of the season.

Despite his conflictual departure from BAR, Villeneuve now reveals he put a lot of heart and money into the team that has now become dominant leader of the F1 classifications.

I'm happy for him (Button) but I also see the team as a negative part of my past. I feel as though a lot of my own money is still there; in 1999, my former manager Craig Pollock set up that team (BAR) with some of my money as well. From BAR it was then Honda and now it's Brawn,” added the Canadian.
