Villeneuve Confirms Presence in 2010/11 Andros Trophy

Jacques Villeneuve did not get his way with his plans to set up a Formula One team recently, but that isn't to mean he won't try his luck in other racing series. However, he will leave his team ownership plans aside for a few weeks and start focusing on this one next challenge he confirmed earlier this week, namely his debut in the Andros Trophy this winter.

That's right, Villenueve will compete in the well-known winter rallying event alongside his former teammate from Formula One Olivier Panis, at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia.

He will be part of the entry list for the season opener next week at Val Thorens, after which he is expected to drive the #3 Fabia on three more events, as follows: l’Alpe d’Huez (December 17-18), Saint Dié des Vosges (Janaury 23, 2011) and Super Besse (January 29, 2011). Additionally, he may also race in the season finale at Stade de France, but his entry will depend on his commitments in NASCAR.

I'm really excited about joining Skoda and Olivier. The prospect of this reunion was an important factor in my decision,” said the former 1997 Formula One driver, according to the Andros Trophy official website.

Olivier has seriously whetted my appetite talking about the great atmosphere and the very high level of competition - as have other F1 drivers such as Alain Prost. I had a real desire to live this experience and I think I will enjoy it. There is a real challenge to be tackled with Olivier and Skoda. I come to learn the basics of ice racing and I will rely on Olivier's advice.”
