Vettel Wins Brazilian GP, Red Bull New F1 Champions

Sebastian Vettel got back into the title hunt with a win in the Brazilian Grand Prix. The German driver led the race from the first corner to the chequered flag, leaving nothing to chance in what may be considered another Red Bull day in Formula One.

Despite starting the race from 2nd and 3rd respectively, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber did not take long to overtake pole sitter Nico Hulkenberg. The former did it in a matter of seconds, by the first corner, while the latter took less than half of lap to do the same. From that point on, the Red Bull duo drove comfortably in those positions until the finish line, despite a late deployment of the safety car on Lap 51.

Fernando Alonso didn’t manage to gain a single spot at the start, but he quickly overtook McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton (when the Brit ran wide at the exit of Turn 3) afterwards and, after countless attacks over Hulkenberg, finally got into 3rd place. From that point on, the Spaniard stopped risking and settled for the 15 points awarded for 3rd place, which also secured him the lead in the overall classification with one race to go.

The safety car with 20 laps to go – deployed due to Vitantonio Liuzzi’s crashing into the tire barriers – helped Hamilton make on more pit stop and take on new tires, but he still couldn’t match the pace of Alonso late in the race. He eventually had to settle for 4th place, ahead of teammate Jenson Button (who officially lost the chance to retain his crown) and Mercedes GP duo Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher.

Completing the Top 10 were pole sitter Nico Hulkenberg, Renault’s Robert Kubica and BMW Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi.

While the season finale will give us the name of Formula One’s new champion, the Brazilian GP has already revealed us the 2010 constructors’ champions. Thanks to their 1-2 finish at Interlagos (4th of the season), Austrian team Red Bull Racing secured their first F1 title in history.

In the overall classification, Alonso leads from Webber by 8 points, while Vettel sits in 3rd place, 7 points behind his teammate.
