Vettel Will Push for Title in Abu Dhabi

Sebastian Vettel insisted that he will not give up on the world title in Abu Dhabi, as he is now only 15 points behind Fernando Alonso in the overall classification. If we were to switch to the old points system, the difference between 1st place Alonso and third placed Vettel would be of only 6 points, which makes it only natural for the German racer to still feel decent about his title chances.

Entering the Brazilian GP with a race win distance from Alonso, Vettel now needs to win the Abu Dhabi GP and hope that the Spaniard will be classified 5th or lower in order to secure his first F1 crown in career. In the case of his teammate Mark Webber, the Australian needs to win the upcoming race and hope Alonso finishes in 3rd place or lower.

Of course, there is the third possibility that Alonso finishes the race in 2nd place, a situation in which the Ferrari-an would secure his 3rd title in career.

I think so. If it was 25 it would be impossible, but 15 is possible,” said Vettel after the Brazilian GP, insisting however that he wants the title to be fought for on track, and not be influenced by mechanical failures or unfortunate accidents.

I don't wish anything bad for him (Alonso) but I wouldn't be sad to see some Ferrari smoke. We are racing and pushing ourselves to the limit, I have to focus on myself, get the best out of the car, and try to repeat and try to win the race there and then we see where he is finishing or probably not In a week's time we will know.”

Recently, Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko admitted that his team will set up a strategy for the Abu Dhabi GP, in such a way that the Milton Keynes based team would bag a second world title next weekend, regardless of the driver to hold the F1 crown.
