Vettel Urges Red Bull to Develop F-Duct Quickly

Following McLaren Mercedes' domination in the Friday practice sessions of the Chinese Grand Prix, several voices within the F1 paddock started becoming more vocal regarding the F-duct system used by the Woking based team on the MP4-25. And it's not like somebody is arguing against it, on the contrary.

After Felipe Massa, now Sebastian Vettel pointed out the clear advantage on straight line sectors that this type of device brings to the McLarens. Under the circumstances, the 22-year old German thinks the F-duct system is a must-have in the Grands Prix to come, and urged his team to move quickly on that in order to remain competitive with the top teams.

If you compare to the other teams and compare the sector times where you lose times and so on, it is clear on the sectors where you have more straights that you tend to lose more to a McLaren than another car,” said Vettel in China, according to Autosport.

It (F-duct) is worth quite a bit, and is quite a big advantage in terms of lap time. It probably depends on the circuit, but it is up to five tenths (of a second),” added the Red Bull driver, who finished the P1 and P2 on 4th and 5th respectively.

Nevertheless, even if Red Bull will hurry in developing a similar system on their RB6, Vettel believes it will take a while until the device will work properly.

Everyone is under pressure to copy and come up with something similar, which is very difficult because McLaren has been planning this for a long time. And, it is not that easy even if you have it to make it work, to operate with it,” added Vettel, who added that he hopes the RB6 to feature the F-duct from as early as the Spanish GP.
