Vettel on Pole at Suzuka

Sebastian Vettle managed to place on the first spot of the grid for tomorrow's race after an eventful Japanese qualifying.

The first session of the qualifiers started amid a beautiful weather with plenty of sunshine and a notable and enthused F1 crowd. The mix of technical and fast corners already took its tool on some drivers, both Buemi and Kovalainen spining out on the same corner in the very first few laps when grip wasn't at its best.

Q1 ended with Sebastian Vettel setting the fastest lap, followed by Lewis Hamilton just 0.034 seconds behind. Kovalainen and Buemi got back in the game after their little outing, both making it into Q2, while Heikki even set the top speed of the session at 313 km/h (194.4 mph).

The second session of the qualifiers started without Fisichela, Nakajima, Grosjean Liuzzi and Webber who failed to register satisfying lap times. The challenging Suzuka circuit took its toll again, this time Jaime Alguersuari spun out in the same place the previous two did. Although recking his car, raising the red flag as well as the medical team's intervention, the Spaniard walked away on his own feet and headed for the medical center for additional checks.

Just minutes after the session resumed, Toyota's Timo Glock went out the track hitting the safety barriers hard, causing the red flag to be waved again on the Japanese track. The accident took place in the last corner, just before the straight line. Glock's crash appeared to be more serious than first believed, causing the ambulance to arrive at the scene. In the end the German driver managed to wave at the crowd as he was transported by the medical team on a gurney.

Q2 ended with another incident caused by a driver error, Sebastien Buemi scraping the front wing of his car, which eventually ended up on the track right on an uphill portion of the track where visibility is impaired.

Left out of Q3 were Rosberg, Alonso, Kubica, Glock and Alguersuari. The final session of qualifying began with another incident, this time Finn Heikki Kovalainen was out of the equation.

In the end it was German Sebastian vettel how took pole position, followed by Jarno Trulli and Lewis Hamilton. Force India's Sutil completes the second row, with Barrichello and Heidfeld on third row. Button and Raikkonen were the last ones to record a lap time in Q3 and will start tomorrow from seventh and eight place respectively.
