Vettel Issues F1 Strike Warning... Again

Sebastian Vettel once again voiced his frustrations on the increased workload the drivers are facing in the 2011 season of Formula 1, issuing a new threat in regards to a potential strike from the F1 drivers should the situation become too dangerous. The question remains, is anyone listening?

Prior to the Australian Grand Prix a couple of weekends ago, the 23-year old world champion told the media that the addition of KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and the adjustable rear wings increases the workload each driver has to tackle during the race, which could lead to dangerous situations.

Even after dominating the season opening round from beginning to end, Vettel (who is a director within the Grand Prix Drivers Association) insisted he is not comfortable with the new elements, and a strike will be taken into account by the GPDA should the situation worsen.

If the situation worsens to the point of becoming dangerous, I think we have the power to voice our position,” said the German in a recent interview with daily Die Welt. “In the meantime, we will open our mouths and speak with the international federation to find a reasonable solution.”

The funny thing is not all members of the GPDA agree with the young world champion. More, 7-time world champion and one of the most experienced drivers in the F1 field today, Michael Schumacher, insisted he has no problem with having to adjust to two new technologies in 2011, while Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, a double world champion himself, insisted that each team has to find a way to make it easier for its drivers to make perfect use of KERS and the wing without compromising focus in the race.
