Vettel Is Waiting for Di Resta in F1

Sebastian Vettel looks forward to resuming his rivalry with Paul di Resta, only this time in the Formula One championship. The two drivers used to compete for the same French ASM team in the F3 Euro Series back in 2006, when the Scottish racer managed to clinch the title some 11 points ahead of the reigning F1 champion.

A few weekends back, Di Resta claimed his first ever title in the DTM series, and Mercedes-Benz waited until this Thursday to hail its champion during a ceremony in Stuttgart. According to motorsport-magazin.com, Vettel appeared by video link and reportedly told Di Resta that “I hope to see you in Formula One next year.

Germany's news agency SID went even further and revealed the rest of Vettel's messages, which reads like this: “Hopefully it will not be as tight as it was in F3!

As a short reminder, the two scored an overall 9 wins for ASM team during the 2006 F3 Euro Series, 5 going to Di Resta and the other 4 being part of Vettel's tally. It was the only season when the two drivers competed one against the other, as Vettel progressed to a test driving role for BMW Sauber F1 Team (he even got to make his F1 debut the next year), while the Scot chose the DTM way as a Mercedes Benz rookie.

While Vettel is currently a world champion, Di Resta spent the 2010 season driving his full-programme in the DTM, while also spending the F1 weekends inside the Force India garage (and partially driving the VJM02 in the Friday practice sessions) as their test and reserve driver. In recent months, he has been linked with a driving seat with the Silverstone based team, where he would replace Vitantonio Liuzzi.

Force India is yet to announce its full lineup for the upcoming campaign. Another hopeful for a seat there is former Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg.
