Needless to say, it all surfaced during the Turkish Grand Prix this season, when Vettel ruined Webber's race by making contact with the Australian while trying to overtake him for the lead. The German had to retire in that race and Webber went on to finish 3rd, but the former was captured by the cameras gesturing with his finger that Webber was crazy.
A couple of races later, at Silverstone, the famous wing saga triggered some huge criticism from Webber's part regarding his team's politics and how Vettel has conducted himself during the British GP weekend. In that sense, when asked if he is Vettel's friend, Webber said that he would save him if he is a life or death situation, but that he would never take him out for a beer.
Now Vettel strikes back on this topic, admitting in an interview with Der Spiegel magazine that he and Webber don't get along within the Red Bull team.
“There is a certain distance. The first priority is the team but racing drivers usually see things very stubbornly. It's the same in this case. We work together where we must work together to bring forward the team and develop the car. Otherwise, everyone is focused on himself to seek his own advantage,” said Vettel, who told the media that Webber showed his true face at Silverstone shortly after the British GP weekend.
Additionally, Vettel told the German publication that the situation between him and his teammate could get even worse in the future, if both will continue to have title chances until late in the season.
“Who knows, in the next few months, if we're both still racing at the front, things could become more tense between us,” added the German.
