Here's an R6 you just don't see every day: the Vercar R6e, the electric version of the popular sport bike.

The recent FIM announcements have made a lot of guys happy: electric bikes will finally be able to race against the classic ones in the same classes, based on a power-to-weight ratio. The video presentation is in Italian, unfortunately. However we managed to figure out some of the things the guys said.

First of all, the key element is the gearbox. The R6e comes with a traditional 6-speed transmission and a freelance journalist who has ridden the bike for several laps on the famous Modena circuit reports that the machine feels just as natural as the combustion engine version. Which is of course, extremely nice.

With more and more electric bike manufacturers understanding that racing performance and riding pleasure come from being able to shift gears and thus ride aggressively, the future of electric motorcycles looks really nice.

The top speed is somewhere in the 240 km/h range (149 mph), with a 72-battery array and a range up to 200 km, though we doubt the bike can do 124 miles in racing conditions. No voltage, no capacity or motor rating are offered. Charging is supposed to take 4 hours on 220V or 2 hours on 380V.
