The much desired Vauxhall VXR8 returns to dealer lots after sales were discontinued this March. Muscle car enthusiasts have something to celebrate as the firm released an updated model with a feisty new look.

The model takes its fundamental body structure from the Holden Commodore, but has been enhanced by performance division HSV. Changes to the new model include a new matte black 'Shockwave' grille, two chromed exhaust pipes and a new rear spoiler.

The interior has been redesigned and now sports a cleaner, more upmarket look. The center console has been reshaped, and a color touchscreen and Bluetooth were added as standard features.

The feel of the VXR8 is now much better, thanks to the introduction of Magnetic Ride Control. The system continuously adapts the ride to help find the best balance between comfort and agility.

The racy VXR8 comes with the same LS3 6.2 liter V8 engine that was first used in the Corvette. The engine delivers 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft). The LS3 V8 is particularly popular among tuners in the USA, so performance parts are widely available. The most spectacular engine upgrade that can be performed under warranty is a GBP 7,000 supercharger kit that increases the power output to 530 hp. Even without the aftermarket modifications, the car is capable of reaching 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 4.9 seconds, with help from a launch control system.

Unfortunately the price has increased dramatically from GBP 37,105 (US $58,500 / EUR 43,800) to GBP 49,500 (US $78,000 / EUR 58,500) for the base model. Sales are expected to begin in March.
