Vauxhall’s monstrous 6.2-liter V8-powered VXR8 is the unlikely winner of this year’s edition of the the Fleet World MPG Marathon, as it managed an astounding 53 percent improvement on the combined figure.
The car was driven by Top Gear Online editor Chris Mooney with help from navigator, Andrew Duerden, Vauxhall’s archivist and resident eco-driving expert. Thus, the V8 powered car got 32.14 mpg on the run, which might not sound that impressive, but represents a 53 percent improvement over the 21 mpg it does on the combined UK cycle.
“Andrew and I are, as they say, over the moon to win the overall best percentage improvement in the VXR8,” said Chris Mooney. “It just goes to show that the person behind the wheel can make a massive difference to fuel costs and carbon emissions. And, of course, that a 6.2 liter V8 is a very sensible choice of engine in the right hands.”
We think donuts might have been a good way to celebrate.
