Vauxhall Sponsors Scotland Soccer Team

It's a very busy start of a year for the British division of German manufacturer Opel, who in the course of less than a week, announced two major sponsorship agreements with two of UK's soccer teams.

Last week, Vauxhall became the sponsor of the Irish Football Association for the next three-and-a-half year. Now, the same car maker announces a similar agreement (also for three-and-a-half years) has been reached with the Scottish FA.

The manufacturer's logos will go the jerseys of the senior A squad, as well as on those of all Scottish age group and women's national squads. The financial terms of the sponsorship have not been made public.

“I look forward to a prosperous partnership that will inspire Craig Levein’s side for the second half of our UEFA Euro 2012 qualification campaign and beyond,” said Scottish FA Chief Executive Stewart Regan.

"Vauxhall’s marketing expertise will also ensure that our supporters and media partners can look forward to many exciting initiatives involving the national teams.”

Scotland now ranks third in the Euro 2012 qualifying group, where it battles the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Liechtenstein and current world champions Spain. Their current standing leaves room for hope that they will make it to Poland and Ukraine, where the European championship will be held next year.

"Football and cars are two of our nation's biggest passions and this partnership is a clear and unequivocal sign that Vauxhall is firmly behind not only a successful Scottish senior team but is also committed to supporting grass roots initiatives across all levels of the game," added Vauxhall Managing Director Duncan Aldred.
