Vauxhall has just started a special discount programme that applies to nearly all models produced by the British company. The offer is available to all buyers who purchase a new car between December 27 and January 31, but keep in mind that a new VAT comes in effect in the first day of the new year.
If you're wondering what's so special about this discount, it's worth mentioning that the Astra 1.4 with 100 horsepower comes with a discount of £3,190, while savings for Agila buyers start from £1890. The Corsa is also offered at special prices, with discounts of £3400 depending on the model.
“We’re committed to reducing the pain of the latest VAT rise as much as possible,” said Peter Hope, Vauxhall’s Marketing Director. “Vauxhall Countdown is a no-nonsense 20 per cent discount that applies across almost all models in our range. It has instant appeal for all our customers and makes ownership of some of our latest, award-winning cars even more attractive than before.”
On a separate note, Vauxhall Ampera yesterday qualified for the plug-in car grant of £5,000 offered by the British government, which means the car will cost under £30,000 (under $47,000 or €35,500) when it hits UK showrooms in early 2012.
Add to that the efficiency of up to 50 miles (80 km) range on battery power, free TFL congestion charge, no Vehicle Excise Duty payments and 5% company car taxation, and you realize the Ampera’s overall running costs will be very low.
