With more than 55,000 cars sold in the last 18 months, Vauxhall’s Insignia proved to be a success on the British market. Now, the carmaker announced the Insignia CDTi 4x4 is to hit the nationwide dealerships in September this year. The model combines the Insignia’s Adaptive 4x4 system with the 2.0-litre 160PS CDTi diesel engine.

The Adaptive 4x4 system, a combination of mechanical and hydraulic all-wheel drive systems, is aimed at providing optimal traction in all driving conditions.

The system keeps the wheel stationary until the corrective measures take effect, allowing for traction on sand or mud even if only one rear wheel can find grip. In case it detects the car travels on a highway, it reverts to front-wheel drive to reduce friction loss and save fuel.

The Insignia Sports Tourer 4x4 also features a power tailgate with programmable opening height, Automatic Self Levelling Rear Suspension (standard with Towing Pack) and the FlexOrganizer cargo management system. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 540 to 1,530 litres.

Vauxhall is also offering two new trims.  The Indian Summer interior offers premium, high quality, Nappa leather in a warm shade, complemented by Cashmerestitching. The second trim level, dubbed SRi Vx-Line, features a VXR-style sport leather steering wheel and gearshift gaiter, along with 19-inch, five-spoke alloys.

The 2.0 CDTi engine on the Sports Tourer 4x4 produces 160PS at 4,000rpm, with maximum torque at 350 Nm (up to 380 Nm with overboost). The car is able to accelerate to 60 mph in 9.8 seconds and allows a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h), while delivering a combined fuel consumption of just 47.1 mpg (4.99 l/100km). The unit comes mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
