While carmakers like Porsche have serious business to attend on the Nurburgring these days, the general public has its own Green Hell battles and they’re not shy about it. Perhaps the best recent example comes from a commercial vehicle dogfight, one you can see in the clip below.
We are talking about a pair of vans that take lapping the ‘Ring as serious as possible. The two are some of the most popular vans on the European market, an Opel Vivaro and a Fiat Ducato. And both fly from one vibrator to another in front-wheel-drive form.
Sure, the power-to-weight ration for any of the two is terrible, but their drivers show the kind of determination you usually see with those who sit behind the wheel of Caterhams.
We’re not sure whether their trail braking moves are accidental or come as a result of heavy practice, but we have to admit these blue collar vehicles put on a hilarious show.
As with any competition, the winner has to enjoy special attention and on this occasion he receives the “Fastest Plumber on the Nurburgring Nordschleife” title. This wasn’t an FIA-sanctioned event, so that title might last as much as bubble gum plumbing, but if you ever have a piping emergency, we’re sure this guy can get to you really, really quickly.
We wonder if he knows his way around a heavy-duty turbo setup. That kind of Nurburgring plumbing would make serious sense.
