Of all the things to do when you’re driving and you’re bored, splashing pedestrians on purpose is perhaps the dumbest. It’s also what got one van driver fired.
A video shot in the Canadian city of Ottawa has gone viral and ended up costing a van driver his job with a local construction company. You can see it at the bottom of the page.
Shot by a rear-facing dash camera, the video shows a white van coming closer to the curb so as to splash as much water on pedestrians passing by. This happens at least 3 times and would have probably happened more if the driver had more opportunities. One can imagine the driver inside, chuckling to himself as he does this – since this was his idea of “fun.”
According to the BBC, the driver was quickly identified because you can see the firm’s logo on the side of the van, as well as the plate numbers. Black & McDonald, the firm he was working for and whose van he was driving, didn’t waste any time in firing him, as they say in a statement to the official Facebook page. The driver’s identity hasn’t been made public.
“We apologize to everyone impacted by the recent incident in Ottawa of unacceptable driving by one of our van drivers... This is an isolated incident and the individual is no longer employed with Black & McDonald,” the statement says.
Apparently, being fired is enough punishment for the guy. The media contacted local police to see if they would be pressing criminal charges against him, and the response they got is that he’s been punished enough.
“We consider the file now closed,” Sgt. Mark Gatien is quoted as saying. “The outcome from the employer we feel is enough of a lesson learned for him and your readers and viewers.”
