It’s very difficult for athletes to have a schedule set in stone. Besides competing in their actual sports, they’re also constantly training, be it mentally or physically, or traveling. So, it goes beyond a 9 to 5 job. But not for Valtteri Bottas.
In a new post on his Twitter account, Alfa Romeo racing driver Valtteri Bottas shared he was on the track, practicing all day. He added the time stamp on both photos, starting at 9:49 AM, before finishing at 17:52. After his eight-hour practice, he called it a day, captioning the tweet: “9 to 5.” But that's hardly a regular job.
His practice came ahead of his interview with Motor Sport Magazine, where the Alfa Romeo driver revealed that he “lost joy” in Formula One after racing alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes-AMG Petronas in the early years at the team and that he wanted to quit. “At the end of 2018, I almost stopped, it was so close,” he explained during the Motor Sport Magazine podcast. “Just because of the fact that I couldn’t understand and take the fact that I couldn’t beat Lewis in those two years."
The Finnish driver continued, “I put so much pressure on myself. Towards the end of ’18, especially when I started to have the support role in the team, I really couldn’t take it, I really struggled. It was not fun.” He added, “The last four or five races of ’18 were more painful because you should enjoy F1 and it is pretty cool, but it wasn’t that at all. So, I had a good break between the two seasons and really had to think things through.”
Starting this season, Bottas shifted to Alfa Romeo, and he’s currently in eighth place in the 2022 Driver Standings, scoring the seventh place in the last Grand Prix in Montreal, Canada. While he’s not currently in the top spots anymore, it looks like he enjoys the change.
