Lady rider extraordinaire Valerie Thompson will attempt to break her own land speed record of 212 mph (341 km/h) at this spring’s Texas Mile run. One of the fastest BMW racers of the world, Valerie is also a 5-record holder and member of multiple 200 MPH clubs, BUB included.
She will be riding her BMW S1000RR at the Texas Mile, which takes place next weekend, from March 21 to 23, just as another major high-speed series kicks off: the 2014 MotoGP World Championship.
“Last year was my first time to compete in the Texas Mile and we delivered a very strong performance. I love racing here; it’s an excellent racecourse and is a well run and unique event for speed junkies,” continues Thompson. “The weather should be ideal with midday temperatures expected in the mid-70s and no rain in the forecast, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed,” Valerie Thompson tells BMW MC Mag.
The record-setting BMW S1000RR got numerous improvements over the 2013 version, and Thompson has reasons to believe she can in fact be even faster. The bike received a new Akrapovic exhaust system, Alpha Racing LED Dashboard and a Race Data Logger, both provided by HP Race Parts. Valerie will also test the Magic Bullet Advanced Fuel treatment for the first time and hopes that all these upgrades will help her break her own record.
The Texas Mile debuted in 2003 and has grown quickly, now drawing riders from the US, Canada and Mexico, who come to the Chase Field Industrial Complex in Beeville, TX to put their skills and machines to the test.
