The second Sepang tests before the 2013 season did not work as smooth as it should for Valentino Rossi and Yamaha. While his team mate Jorge Lorenzo did the best official lap and even took first place in one of the three days, always been in the wake of Honda's Dani Pedrosa, Rossi struggled with bike problems and then some more.
He's back on the Yamaha team, but he's not back in the full glory some of the fans expected. Rossi has been constantly slower than experienced riders Lorenzo and Pedrosa, but also slower than the rookie revelation, Honda's Marc Marquez.
After 3 test sessions, Rossi admits beating the leading trio will be a very hard task: “We already know that the Hondas are very fast – both of them – and that Lorenzo is very impressive. To fight with those three guys, we need to put in maximum effort and maybe more.”
Rossi's best lap at Sepang was 2m01s062, some three quarters of a second slower than Lorenzo's fastest lap. Not far, but not dead close, either. With two more tests (a private one at Austin, TX and the Jerez one), Rossi and his team still ahve enough time and laps to mend the bike. And then, in Qatar, the show will start.
