V8 Supercars Star Craig Lowndes Has a Holden Named After Him

Based on the 2015 Commodore VF, the limited run Craig Lowndes SS V special edition pays tribute to the 20 years of experience the Aussie racing driver amassed in professional Australian motorsport. So what's in it for you with this bit of Holden insanity?

“This race-inspired Craig Lowndes SS V Special Edition Commodore has been created by our talented Holden engineers and designers with Craig’s input and approval," explains Peter Keley, Holden director of sales. But he's missing the point frankly because there's nothing really racy about this specific Commodore.

That motorsport-inspired mumbo-jumbo is the typical marketing nonsense. Nevertheless, there are some bits and bobs added for the sake of enhancing the car's driving dynamics. Each of the 233 special edition units that'll ever be built get upgraded suspension bushes for improved footing at the limits of grip.

Looks nice and goes like stink, but it's not that special

In addition to those, the 20-inch alloy wheels give the Aussie bruiser an aggressive look, but also force it to upgrade to super sticky Bridgestone Potenza rubber. The only other notable mechanical highlights come in the form of a high-performance set of Brembo brakes that employ big four-piston calipers on every corner, as well as a harder, sports-tuned suspension setup.

Aesthetic sauce is limited, but the overall package is different to the eye from the standard 2015 Holden Commodore SS V Redline. To round things off nicely, the thumpin' great 6-liter V8 bruiser under the hood is good for 270 kW (362 horsepower) and 530 Nm of torque.

The Gen IV alloy vee eight is mated as standard to a six-speed stick shift, with a GM 6L80 six-speed auto with flappy paddles offered as an optional extra for more, ahem, comfortable customers. If you want one, be quick about it: more than 50 percent of the production run has been already spoken for.
