Global Touring Car Series, a newly established racing series opened to mid-size sedans powered by V8 engines, will commence this year in South Africa.
The rules say that all cars are required to use the same space frame chassis, V8 engines with with outputs around 500 horsepower, sequential-shift gearboxes and rear-wheel drive. Bodies, on the other hand, can be borrowed from most sedan or hatchback-sized vehicle as the chassis has been designed to accept Original Equipment body panels.

The first vehicle to join the series wears a highly modified Ford Focus sedan that has been fitted with a widebody kit, race-spec bumpers and side skirts, a massive rear wing, a side exhaust and a full roll cage.

According to Zercustoms, the organizers want to establish a worldwide network of Global Touring Car championships if the South African series proves successful.
