Ford executives approved the plan in 2006 beginning to manufacturing of the EcoBoost engine that would be suitable for the F-150. The final result was a turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that had loads of power improved and fuel economy. The V6 produces 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque(approx. 569Nm), and the unit quickly picked up 40 percent of the model’s sales.
The move toward forced induction seems natural, but it could potentially leave the competition in a cloud of dust. Detroit News reports that the revolution has also translated into sales, as 100,000 trucks with the smaller EcoBoost engine have been sold this year.
According to Doug Scott, marketing manager for the F-Series pickups, the last time they sold that many V6 pickups was in 1985. In fact, demand has been so great that they’ve even had to increased production.
